Our Accomplishments

For six years DSA has prided itself on its transparency, its openness and inclusiveness, innovative ideas, and unyielding resolve. We are twenty-nine students that are driven by a passion for taking on leadership roles, breaking new ground, and being the bold group of students to counterbalance the weight of the majority party at Queens. We are the Underdogs, constantly pushing the issues that have for long, been neglected: a Greener QC, a more responsive Student Government- one that uses student fees wisely, low tuition, more campus spirit and activities, better facilities and buildings, and most importantly improving the educational experience at Queens with more full-time professors and supporting our adjunct professors and other on-campus workers. Our ambitions are seeded in the idea of building our college, our community, and the worth of a Queens College diploma.

DSA's accomplishment's over the last 6 years we've been around:
* Lobbied for more funding in D.C. and Albany
* Fought hard against the Tuition Hikes and the cessation of the Q74
* Helped in the extension of the library hours
* Worked on the Master Planning Committee which:
- Brought the Residence Hall, The Gym, Extensions to Remsen, other renovations, and will now bring a second Quad to the campus
* Brought Professors a resolution for Family Leave
* Have worked with Transfer students for introductory events
* Planned the 9/11 Memorial on the Quad
* Lobbied for the Dream Act in D.C. for international students
* Planned the annual Midnight Breakfast free food during finals week!
* Worked with Inter-Greek Council to bring the Fall 2009 Smile Train Carnival
*Held the QC first student forum with Administration
* Lobbied for hand sanitizers to the SU basement and child development center
* Brought a proposal to Academic Senate to change how elections work by going completely online and removing lab tops being used to gain votes.

* And we have made student gov't more accountable.
Competition in gov't results in better decision-making.

The current student government gets paid $27,000 a year.

We will not be paying ourselves this amount. This money will be re-allocated to
student clubs and organization on campus. We are going to use the money to bring
"Student Association Textbook scholarship!"

Student fees = Your Money! You should have a say!

We've done a lot without even being in power. Imagine if we were elected.

We have big plans for the campus. Help us achieve them by joining our grassroots movement.

Everybody starts at the top, and then has the problem of staying there. Lasting accomplishment, however, is still achieved through a long, slow climb and self-discipline. Helen Hayes
